2003 HEIL CALIFORNIA PULL Recall

Item Affected: STRUCTURE

Date Announced: 02/10/2006

Description of Recall: ON CERTAIN PULL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH AIR RIDE SUSPENSIONS, THE INTEGRITY OF THE WELD SEQUENCING COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN CRACKING AT THE REAR OF THE SUSPENSION FRAME.

Conequence: SUCH A CRACK, IF LEFT UNATTENDED COULD PROGRESS TO AN ABRUPT FAILURE IN THE DOLLY FRAME. FAILURE TO HAVE THE UNIT UPGRADED COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Action Need To Fix It: DEALERS WILL UPGRADE THE WELDING WHICH INVOLVES THE ADDITION OF A STEEL BAR TO REINFORCE THE FRAME STRUCTURE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 16, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HEIL AT 1-800-400-6913, EXTENSION 353 OR 574.

2003 HEIL PETROLEUM PULL TRAILER Recall

Item Affected: TRAILER HITCHES

Date Announced: 12/01/2014

Description of Recall: Heil Company (Heil) is recalling certain model year 2000-2014 Petroleum Pull Trailers manufactured August 29, 2000, to September 12, 2014. On the affected trailers, the cables of the secondary coupling system may fail to keep the trailer connected to the tow vehicle if the pintle hitch connection should fail.

Conequence: A failure of the cables of the secondary coupling system after the pintle hitch has become disconnected, could result in the trailer detaching from the tow vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Action Need To Fix It: Heil will notify owners and dealers and will install larger diameter secondary coupling cables, free of charge. The recall began on December 29, 2014. Owners may contact Heil customer service at 1-800-400-6913.

Item Affected: SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:ABS WARNING LIGHT

Date Announced: 10/15/2003

Description of Recall: ON CERTAIN TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH BENDIX EC-30T ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNITS (ECU). IF THE TRAILER-MOUNTED ABS WARNING LAMP CIRCUIT EXPERIENCES AN ELECTRICAL SHORT AND THE SHORT IS NOT REPAIRED, THE HIGH SIDE POWER SWITCH INSIDE THE ECU THAT CONTROLS THE ILLUMINATION OF THE TRAILER-MOUNTED ABS WARNING LAMP MAY EVENTUALLY BECOME THERMALLY STRESSED AND EXPERIENCE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT.

Conequence: IN AN OVER-CURRENT CONDITION IN THE ECU AND LEAD TO EXCESSIVE HEAT, SMOKE, AND POSSIBLE FIRE.

Action Need To Fix It: DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS AND ALSO PROVIDE A LABOR ALLOWANCE FOR THE REPAIR. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT BENDIX AT 1-800-478-1793 OR HEIL AT 1-800-400-6913.
